In today’s post we explore all of your favourite 70s one hit wonders. Artists who never seemed to follow up on a big hit in the charts, some may have had minor after but never made the top 20 again. As you know there were some great acts who for one reason or another had their one big hit and went off to do something else. Let’s take a look at these 70s one hit wonders and see if your favourite is there. If not, let me know and I will add it to the post.

These 70s one hit wonders are songs from the British chart. They are songs we al loved and sang and danced to. Let’s get started.

70s One Hit Wonders – 1970

Lee Marvin – Wandrin’ Star reached the top spot in February 1970.

Norman Greenbaum – Spirit In The Sky also reached number 1 in the charts March of this year.

Fred Payne – Band Of Gold was another who got to number 1 in September 1970. Did you know this song was about male impotence? Listen to the words.

Matthews Southern Comfort – Woodstock also reached number 1 in September 1970.

Hot Legs – Neanderthal Man got to number 2 in July 1970.

Bobby Bloom – Montego Bay reached number 3 in August 1970.

Poppy Family – Which Way You Goin’ Billy got to number 7 also  in August 1970.

Clarence Carter – Patches had a number 2 hit in October 1970.

 

 

 

 

1971

Mixtures had a number 2 hit in January 1971 with The Pushbike Song.

Ashton, Gardner and Dyke got to number 3 in January this year with Resurrection Shuffle.

Lynn Anderson also got to number 3 in February 1971 with Rose Garden.

Tami Lynn – I’m Gonna Run Away From You reached number 4 in May of this year.

James Taylor – You’ve Got A Friend also reach number 4 in August 1971.

Redbone had their only hit with Witch Queen Of New Orleans in September and reached number 2.

Piglets – Johnny Reggae got to number 3 in November 1971.

America – A Horse With No Name reached number 3.

 

 

 

70s One Hit Wonders -1972

Vicky Leandros – Come What May  reached number 2 in April 1972.

Terry Dactyl and The Dinosaurs – Seaside Shuffle got to number 2 in July.

Faron Young – 4 In The Morning reached number 3 in the same month.

Hawkwind – Silver Machine also got to number 3 in July 1972.

Hot Butter – Popcorn went to number 5 in July 1972.

Python Lee Jackson – In A Broken Dream got to number 3 in September 1972  The vocals were sung by Rod Stewart.

 

 

1973

Bobby “Boris” Picket and the Crypt Kickers – Monster Mash was a hit in September 1973.

Marie Osmond – Paper Roses had her only solo hit in 1973 and reached number 2.

70s One Hit Wonders -1974

Sylvia had a hit with Y Viva Espana in August 1974 reaching number 4.

Eddie Holman – (Hey There) Lonely Girl went to number 4 in October.

Ace had one hit with How Long which got to number 20 in November 1974.

70s one hit wonders

Telly Savalas – If got to number one in February 1975 due to the popularity of his Kojak character on the telly.

Minnie Ripperton – Lovin’ You was her only hit reaching number 2 in April 1975.

Typicaly Tropical – Barbados reached the top spot in July of this year.

Morris Albert had a big hit with Feelings in this year reaching number 4 in the charts in September.

 

 

 

70s One Hit Wonders -1976

CW McCall – Convoy got to number 2 in February 1976.

Sherbet – Howzat reached number 4 in September.

70s One Hit Wonders -1977

Joe Tex – Ain’t Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) reached number 2 in April 1977

Alessi reached number 8 in June 1977 with Oh Lori.

Floaters – Float On went to number1 in July.

Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band – Floral Dance got to number 2 in November.

Althea and Donna hit the top spot with Uptown Top Ranking in December 1977.

 

 

 

1978

James Galway – Annie’s Song was at number 3 with this instrumental version of John Denver’s song in May 1978.

We had 3 70s one hit wonders in June 1978.

Clout – Substitute reached number 2

Marshall Hain – Dancing In The City got to number 3

A Taste Of Honey – Boogie Oogie Oogie also got to number 3.

Jilted John – Jilted John Reached number 4 in August and yes Gordon was a moron.

Dean Friedman – Lucky Stars was a hit in September 1978.

 

 

 

70s One Hit Wonders -1979

M – Pop Muzik got to number 3 in April 1979.

Anita Ward – Ring My Bell hit the top spot in June 1979.

Janet Kay – Silly Games reached number 2 also in June.

Lena Martell – One Day At a Time was number 1 in September 1979.
