Today I have decided to do a post on Bryan Ferry songs.

Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music

You can’t write a post on Bryan Ferry songs without mentioning Roxy Music. He was releasing his solo songs at the same time as he was the front man for Roxy Music. If you want to read more about Roxy Music go here.

Bryan Ferry was born, the son of a miner on the 26th September 1945 in Washington, County Durham. He sang with a band called The Banshees as a teenager. In 1964 he went to study fine art at Newcastle university. It was while he was at Newcastle university he formed his first band called The Gas Board which played mostly R&B and soul numbers. He went on to finish his degree before moving south to London. He had various jobs which included teaching ceramics at a girls school.

He then decided he wanted to become a rock star. He had no intention of doing the usual band way of getting noticed like slogging around the bars of the city. He wanted to go straight for the jugular of the rock industry.

He formed the band Roxy Music and was careful to choose the correct members for the band. An old friend Graham Simpson from The Gas Board joined him as bass guitarist, Andy Mackay (born the 23rd July 1946) came in on sax and oboe.

An old friend friend of Mackay’s from Reading university  Brian Eno was brought in to play keyboards. Guitarist David O’List had a brief stay with this line up before leaving. He was replaced by the band’s roadie Phil Manzanera (born on the 31st January 1951).

Drummer Paul Thompson (born on the 13th May 1951) had joined two months before Manzanera joined the band.

That’s the early years  of Bryan Ferry let’s look at his solo career.

Bryan Ferry had 19 songs that made the top 50 in the UK. He also had chart singles with Roxy Music.
